my approach to working with artists all starts with understanding who they are and what they love. I want to intimately understand when you say “make the vocal feel more purple” then I know exactly what to do. that’s true hospitatlity
as a creative myself I understand the feeling of preciousness and intentionality (or happy accidents) of your choices in your project.
technical understanding and enthusiasm for the tools of music making is a must but it never can be the decider. limitations and creativity go hand and in. I believe in maximizing the best of what we have at our hands.

a brief background
Shawn has been working in music for over a decade. After becoming an intern at Rax Trax Recording in Chicago, He quickly rose to an assistant for chief engineer Rick Barnes. Shawn went freelance in 2023. Over his career he has had the opportunity to work with Robohands, Woody Goss of Vulfpeck, Rob Fraboni, David Najarian of Trophy Beats, Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights, John Primer, David Murray, Kahil El'zabar, m.e.h., dz riley and many more local and national acts.

Shawn was a chef for years at multiple Michelin starred kitchens in San Francisco and Chicago. His time in high level thinking kitchens informs his ability to relate to artists, manage complex demands and cultivate a sense of hospitality in the studio process.
